Making money on the internet through affiliate marketing is all about getting cash in your pockets for selling products you don’t own and at the same time not going to jail for it. Someone else goes through all of the trouble to make the software programs, service, e-Book or digital content products. They make the product, you sell it for them and earn commission.
You can think of affiliate marketing as a concord between the developer of the product, known as the merchant affiliate, and the marketer. The marketers job is to get people to purchase the product by form of SEO or email lists, nothing illegal though.
Many affiliates are different and they all have their own guidelines. But in most cases they will only pay you for your advertising of their product if it results in a sale. So the more sales the marketer is able to get the more money the marketer will make.
Once you make a sale you will more than likely have to wait a month before you see the money in your pocket, all depending on the affiliate merchant of course. Sales are tracked by either special links, cookies, software or all of the above to ensure that you get your commission.
How much money can an affiliate make by marketing other peoples products? This will all boil down to how well you know how to choose products that sell and people have a desire to buy online. My advice is to try as many as possible until you find a money maker, you can only strike out so many times before you hit a home run.
You should pick a program that you feel comfortably promoting and something that would not embarrass you at first, as there are many high paying commission products that are out there that could be a bit awkward to promote.
For the beginner it would be best to choose a niche or a product that you already have an understanding of. This will make it easier for you to write ads, write articles or post discussions in a niche related forum.
It would also be wise to only promote products and services for companies who have gone through the trouble to provide you with affiliate tools and sales aids such as banners and other marketing materials that you can use.
Commission rates vary, the majority of digital products and software though are around the 50% mark which is very common. Other affiliate merchants will not offer you no where near that but the product will be completely different, such as Commission Junction affiliates along with many others.
